Job Description

Support Worker – Housing Options and Homelessness
Derby
27/11/2024 – 2 months initially
Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm, 36 hrs/week
  • Provide support and assistance to homeless people based in an emergency accommodation provision for single homeless customers
  • Support those people to move on to appropriate accommodation
  • Assist customers with managing finances, including budgeting, debt issues, bank accounts and liaising with appropriate agencies
  • Ensure that customers within the Emergency Accommodation understand the terms of their tenure and their rights and responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload that delivers effective advice, support and crisis intervention
  • Deliver regular and effective support sessions with customers, reviewing progress
  • Complete support plans and risk assessments for customers and review these
  • Ensure the health and safety requirements within the building are maintained at all times
  • Identify and report building and environmental risks to the relevant Manager/Senior or Team Leader including repairs required to the building, insecurities that may impact on the overall security of the site, damage – accidental and deliberate, breaches of building security (such as tail gating by non-residents or customers accessing areas, they have no permission to be in), technical issues with equipment that may impact on building and/or customer safety and any other health and safety risks
  • Carry out customer site safety inductions, including specific fire evacuation plans (PEEPS) for customers
  • Manage health and safety, antisocial behaviour and nuisance
  • Seek to provide an environment which provides an appropriate level of cleanliness and tidiness and to undertake other appropriate practical supportive tasks, these might include cleaning and tidying customers rooms, making beds, cleaning exceptionally dirty areas and soiled laundry
  • Keep and maintain accurate records of work
Requirements
  • Experience working with homeless people based in an emergency accommodation
  • Experience in supporting to find appropriate accommodation
  • Experience of completing support plans, risk assessments and safety plans, ideally in a housing orientated environment
  • Experience specific to the Housing Act 1996 (amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017) and the ability to interpret these in order to advise others
  • Adult DBS registered to the update service
