West Berkshire Council - Care Placement Officer (Children and Schools)

Location: Market Street, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 5LD (Occasional office presence in Newbury could be required at the request of the Manager.)

Contract: Initial contract to 30th April 2021 with possible further extension.

Hours: Full Time – Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 5:00pm

Payrate: £12.20 an Hour

Job Purpose:

In conjunction with the Commissioning Officer, commission and liaise individual spot purchase care packages for Children’s & Family Services including but not limited to:

Schools, respite, fostering agencies and other services from the private and voluntary sectors.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Record results on Care Director on an ongoing basis.  This may include searches for independent foster care (IFA), residential care, parenting assessment placements, 16+ supported accommodation, education placements OR other needs as they arise. 

Draft placement templates / spot purchase order forms and liaise with relevant team / manager for sign off and ensure these are added to the system accordingly.

Add placement details to Care Director as required, ensuring relevant finance teams are updated of any changes.

Communicate with partner colleagues on both South Central IFA and Residential frameworks. Liaise with duty team colleagues (in particular Family Placement Team) to review ongoing search progress and record information around placement searching activities.

Support information requests as required for Accommodation & Resources (A&R) panel as required.  This meeting is held every two weeks to discuss / agree costs for placements.

Request supplier set up information for new providers, adding to Care Director or Agresso as required.

Comply with WBC health and safety policies, procedures and rules, taking reasonable care of self and others.

Provide support to ensure relevant reporting and management information is prepared and shared with relevant stakeholders, both internal and external

Communicating effectively with the public, Local Authority Officers and Elected Members, as well as contracted suppliers across all disciplines and voluntary and community sector partners.

Working at all times within the strict principles, legal requirements and good practice guidelines for data and information handling, maintaining security and confidentiality
