Education Welfare Officer- Children Services- Merton

Are you a passionate, dedicated Education welfare Officer looking for your next role? 4Recruitment Services are recruiting for Education Welfare Officers to work with the Children & Education service in and around Merton.

Pay Rate: £17.00 - £22.22 per hour (Umbrella Rates)

What you will be doing: 

  • Education Welfare Officer/MASH or CME experience preferred.
  • Own transport preferred.
  • 15 hours per week (to be worked over 2-3 days, one of which must be a Tuesday) 39 weeks of the year (term time only)
  • JOB PURPOSE:-The Education Welfare Officer will work within Education Inclusion to deliver a service that enables pupils to receive their entitlement to education.
  • The role of the Education Welfare Officer is to support families, pupils and schools in addressing all attendance matters, and where necessary, enforcing relevant legislation.
  • To be professionally responsible and accountable for the assessment of educational needs and to assist in the planning and evaluation of the service to meet the government and councils targets to reduce absence and increase attendance and achievement in schools.
  • To be responsible for and manage a caseload of both allocated schools and individual referrals.
  • To provide Education Welfare Service support to all children aged 4- 16 who attend Merton Schools and for those who are resident in the London Borough of Merton, who are not registered as a pupil at any school, and their parents/carers.
  • To act as the Education Navigator within the MASH on a rota basis to ascertain information relating to safeguarding and a child’s welfare and to contribute to risk assessment and the decision making process
  • To organise and take responsibility for your own work making appropriate decisions whilst working under pressure seeking guidance when appropriate.
  • To provide advice and guidance to headteachers, teachers and governors, parents/carers and pupils on issues relating to the laws relating to attendance, absence management, pupil registration, Education Other than at School, Children in Entertainment and Employment, Chaperone licensing.
  • To identify, develop and implement appropriate strategies for maintaining and improving school attendance and reducing absence.
