Hammersmith & Fulham Council - Environmental Health Officer

Location: Hammersmith, UK, W6 9AR

Contract: Initial contract to 31st March 2021

Hours: 36:00 hours per week

Payrate: £23.64 an Hour

Role Purpose: 

To protect the health, safety and welfare of employees and others in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham through the enforcement of health and safety standards in commercial premises and work activities.

To protect the health of consumers through the enforcement of food hygiene and food standards, including the labelling and presentation of food in commercial premises.

Description of Duties:

Undertake projects and initiatives to improve the delivery of the service. These projects may reflect the impact of the wider environmental agenda.

To provide quality, timely and accurate professional advice, guidance and information about any work matter, to customers or colleagues, members of the public, businesses, solicitors and other professionals.

Attend internal and external meetings and Committees of the Council’s when required.

Assist in maintaining quality procedures and other documentation used by the food and safety team.

Participate in the training of businesses, health promotion initiatives and the staff training programme as required.

Ensure effective liaison is maintained with other relevant colleagues internally within the Council about matters relating to work within their areas.

Become familiar with, and work in accordance with Council policies, procedures, protocols, processes, risk assessments and techniques relevant to the job.

Keeping abreast of technical and legal developments in health and safety, food hygiene and food standards.

To participate in Environmental Health’s contribution to ensuring an effective response to civil and other emergencies using skills/expertise relevant to the functions of the post, and in accordance with council emergency procedures.

Cover the work of colleagues in time of leave, sickness or other absenteeism.

Carry out such other duties relevant to the post when required.

To be a flexible and effective team member, supporting the service and its objectives by taking a flexible approach to work activities across the division, places of work, team changes, work systems, practices, case allocation, times and hours of work.

To support the Council’s image, reputation, employee code of conduct and objectives
