Legal Assistant – Social Care and Education – Solihull (Temp Vacancy)

Umbrella Rate: £15.00ph

Full-Time (37 hours)

Job Purpose:

On behalf of the Council, its Partners and Clients undertake a wide variety of legal work, concentrating mainly on Childcare, Adult Social Services and Education.

Accountabilities:

• Preparing documentation in relation to legal proceedings including care proceedings, other Children Act 1989 proceedings, Court of Protection proceedings, other Adult social care matters and non-school attendance prosecutions
• To conduct non-contentious proceedings such as discharge of care order proceedings under the supervision of the Senior Solicitor
• Advising in relation to discharge of Care Order applications under the supervision of the Senior Solicitor
• Preparing and requesting witness statements
• Liaising with the Courts and other stakeholders
• Attending Court hearings with other lawyers
• Attending Legal Panel Meetings with a lawyer in respect of discharge of Care Orders
• Managing a small case load of discharge of care order applications.
• Providing support to the Team Leader and Social Care and Education Team as regards general queries, research and case preparation
• Recording time worked to charge out to clients
• To comply with Lexcel practice management procedures and to endorse and implement client care policies
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be assigned from time to time.
