Market Supervisor – Bromley (Temp Vacancy)

Umbrella Pay Rate: £17.00ph

Full-Time (37 hours)

Job Purpose:

To support a vibrant and thriving Town Centre Market through the supervision of the market operation to ensure a high quality and professional service that compliments the local High Street.

Accountabilities:  

• Review the weekly bookings list of Market Traders and determine most efficient stall layout and stall number requirements in advance of the weekly erection of stalls. Following this process plan the trader locations within the market for that week.
• On a weekly basis instruct the Market Stall Erector on stall numbers and layout requirements (including stall divisions, number of tables, power points etc).
• On a weekly basis monitor the weather forecast for the market days and liaise with Market Management with regard to any extreme weather conditions.
• Be present on-site, generally from 6.30am to 6.00pm Thursdays and 7.00am to 6.00pm Friday and Saturday, to enable hand-overs with market stall erector and overnight security.
• Ensuring the Market Erector has fully prepared stalls / tables / covers / electricity supplies properly as per Traders requirements before the erector leaves the site.
• Control the allocation of stalls to Traders on market days as Traders arrive on site. Where Traders cancel on the day or fail to arrive and so on attempt to fill empty pitches within the market by allowing others Traders to spread where appropriate so as to maintain a full looking market if possible.
• Control the arrival of Trader’s vehicles at the end each market day and make sure Traders park and reload in an appropriate and logical manner therefore allowing access for all Traders to leave in a timely fashion and an orderly manner. Ensure all Traders’ vehicles are off the pedestrian area by 9.00am
• Liaise with the Market and Street Trading Enforcement & Licensing Officer and advise if the Traders are not adhering to the market rules, regulations and acceptable behaviour policy.
• Provide assistance to stall-holders to ensure the smooth running of the Market at all times during market hours.
• Maintain good relationships with other stakeholders within the High Street (Bromley BID, Street Traders, etc...) and support the promotion of Bromley Town Centre.
• Deal with Trader and shopper enquiries on market days.
• Identify maintenance requirements and carry out minor on-site repairs to stalls, market equipment and infrastructure as required and if possible, and/or advise the Market Management of issues that need contractor attention.
