Bolton Council – Mediation Officer

Location: Bolton, Lancashire, BL3 5HT

Contract: 3 Month contract from January 2021 to March 2021 with possible further extension.

Hours: Full Time – 9:00am to 5:00pm – Monday to Friday

Payrate: £11.47 an Hour

Job Purpose: 

To assist in the coordination, promotion, and delivery of a mediation service

The ideal candidate should have experience of working in mediation or conflict resolution (either in a paid or voluntary capacity) and have an understanding of the issues affecting people in a dispute.

They should have excellent communication and IT skills, be well organised and have the ability to work creatively and on their own initiative.

An understanding of how disputes within families can lead to homelessness would also be an advantage.

Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with GDPR using appropriate on line case management system

Some out of hours working will be required.

Driver preferred but not essential

Main Duties

To deal with initial enquires and referrals for the mediation service.

To manage a personal case load, which is reasonable and manageable, decided in cooperation within the supervision structure

To work with young people and their parents or carers to build relationships and prevent homelessness

To work with lodger exclusion cases to prevent homelessness

To assess the suitability of cases referred for mediation

To provide advice, guidance, and training to less experienced mediators, including case work, where appropriate

To work within the existing administrative and case recording systems of Bolton Mediation

To liaise, work in collaboration with and provide information to partner agencies

To represent and promote Bolton Mediation at meetings both inside and outside the Borough when relevant and appropriate, for example Child Action Meetings, Local Area Forums etc.

To be responsible for delivering/meeting key objectives and targets set by funders
