Job Description

Northumberland County Council - COVID Support Officer

Location: Public Health Protection Unit, West Hartford Fire Station, Cramlington, NE23 3JP (Work would be at various locations throughout Northumberland, transport would be required.)

Contract: Initial 3-6 Month Contract with Possible Extensions.

Hours: Full Time – Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 5:00pm

Payrate: £10.41 an Hour

Purpose

To carry out Covid Support operations in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

To promote social distancing and encourage public compliance with COVID19 public health measures.

To educate and explain COVID-19 Secure guidelines in the public realm and for business premises.

To identify and support businesses and premises not following guidelines, escalating as appropriate.

Main Duties

To liaise with members of the public and give advice signposting members of the public and businesses to Covid 19 legislation and government guidance in a courteous manner ensuring that the Council’s customer care policy is adhered to at all times.

To attend tasking meetings and report daily activity and intelligence and information from daily visits using appropriate methods.

The carrying out such duties as may be required, including work outside normal office hours.

To maintain agreed performance targets and to meet the requirements of relevant performance.

To undertake any other duties of a similar nature commensurate with the level of the post as required by the Environmental Health Manager.

Primary Covid – 19 Duties

To direct pedestrians and managing pedestrian one-way systems and guide pedestrians through exit and entry points where necessary.

To check and promote the visibility of COVID-19 Secure messaging and signage.

To hand out face coverings and hand sanitiser where supplied.

To clean touch points where appropriate

To engage with customers to encourage compliance with Covid Secure measures.

To distribute supporting material to businesses and VCSE organisations on how they can best comply with the legislation.

To visit business premises and other Voluntary Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) premises to offer advice and guidance on how to operate safely and in accordance with Covid legislation

and ensure businesses are following guidance and regulatory requirements with respect to COVID safety.

To persuade businesses to comply with government guidelines in relation to operating safely, data collection as necessary, the use of relevant phone apps and assist them in overcoming any perceived barriers.

To use appropriate methods to report activity and escalate concerns to COVID Safe Trading Officers for further action.

To detail and report queries to COVID Safe Trading Officers for further support using equipment provided.
