Paralegal Officer – Northallerton (Temp Vacancy)

Umbrella Pay Rate: £15.00ph

Full-Time (37 hours)

Job Purpose:

The core focus of this job is to provide a wide range of paralegal support to Legal and Democratic Services.  The post holder will be assigned to give dedicated support to the Legal Teams but will be expected to give support across the whole of the Legal and Democratic Services. 

Accountabilities:  

• To assist with the supervision of work experience students on placement.  Participation in performance appraisal (as appraisee) and personal development and training.
• To contribute to the development and management of Legal and Democratic Services by:
• Participation in team meetings.
• Attendance at training courses.
• Contribution to the Legal Services Service Performance Plan (ie the Business Plan).
• Contribution to the development of Legal Services Practice Manual.
• Administrative assistance in preparing briefing papers, newsletters and training sessions.
• To play an active part in ensuring that Legal and Democratic Services provides a quality service to clients.  This responsibility includes:

• Compliance with:
• Law Society Practice Management Standards and other professional requirements including the Law Society Professional Conduct Rules.
• Lexcel standards.
• North Yorkshire Legal Services quality standards.
• Council Financial Regulations and Accounting Instructions.
• Participation in quality standard audits.
• Compliance with and operation of North Yorkshire Legal and Democratic Services Risk Management Policy.  This obligation applies to post holder’s duties generally but with particular relevance to risk assessment being undertaken on each item of casework.
