Tower Hamlets offers the best of London in one borough. A place of opportunity that is at the heart of the UK economy, boasts some of the capital’s biggest attractions and has one of the most culturally rich populations in the country.

We have one of the UK’s fastest expanding economies and the fastest growing population with almost half of our residents aged between 20 and 39.

Our challenge is to manage this growth in a sustainable way so that we see improvements in the lives of all our residents, along with the environment around us.

The council is meeting the challenge by transforming the way it operates in order to deliver better outcomes for our residents with the money we have.

Come join our finance team and make a positive contribution to these improvements.

We are recruiting a Temporary Senior Accountant to join the Health, Adults and Communities Finance Team.

The successful candidate would ideally have (or be in the final stage of studying for) a CCAB or CIMA qualification and previous experience in Adult Social Care and Public Health finance.

Key Responsibilities:

Support resource planning for the directorate, assessing the implications of service proposals, providing financial modelling and analysis of service options for projects and initiatives.

Manage the provision of financial support to the directorate in forecasting both in-year and future year income and expenditure, ensuring these are accurate, appropriate and are supported through activity and performance analysis.

Support the management, development and updating of the medium-term financial strategy (MTFS) and annual budget to ensure that it supports the outcomes set out in the Council’s Strategic Plan.

Lead on working with Divisional Directors to support the development of solutions to immediate budgetary issues, and the resulting implementation from a financial perspective.

Preparation of reports for, and liaison with, Cabinet, subcommittees and boards, internal and external audit, regulators and government departments.

Assist with closing of accounts and associated duties including reconciliations of grants, expenditure, income, accruals and preparation of documents for auditors.
