Senior IT Practitioner – Exeter (Temp Vacancy)

Umbrella Pay Rate: £600.00pd

Full-Time (37 hours)

Job Purpose:

The Met Office is seeking two candidates to join our internal IT Infrastructure team, one of the candidates is targeted to be an escalation point for complex technical problem resolution and

general on-premise systems management, the other is targeted to assist with a project to begin planning an migrating our on-premise managed endpoints to endpoint manager in the cloud

(intune).

The successful candidates will operate as Technical Expert for Microsoft technologies within what is known as the Technical Delivery team. They will be the focal point for technical expertise within the

team and have day-to-day responsibility for ensuring work within the team is carried out to a high technical standard that aligns with the processes already in place.

One of the successful candidates will be responsible for the assessment and deployment of Modern Desktop solution architecture. The Met Office currently have an existing endpoint management

solution in the form of Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) and Endpoint Manager (Intune).

Currently MECM is responsible for the management of Windows 10 devices while EM is responsible for Android and iOS devices. The candidate would be required to review and plan the migration of

the current estate of Windows 10 devices to the EM modern management platform, including the migration of on-premises policies, software applications and compliance baselines to co[1]management. Additionally, the migration away from Windows 10 to AutoPilot deployed, Endpoint Managed instances of Windows 11.

As other requirements arise the successful candidates will be expected to research, develop, and implement novel solutions to problems. Most of the solutions will require a level of adaptability to

work with off-the-shelf Microsoft solutions and work to integrate them into the current production environments.

Candidates can demonstrate the ability to design, implement, administer and support infrastructure technologies, solutions and services. These can include computing, storage, networking, physical

infrastructure, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS), and open source packages and solutions. They can also include virtual and cloud computing such as Infrastructure as a Service

(IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

You can show a thorough understanding of the technical concepts required for the role, and can explain how these fit into the wider technical landscape. You can break a problem down into its

component parts to identify and diagnose root causes. You can troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities.

As subject matter expert for MECM/SCCM and Active Directory within the team, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor colleagues on both a planned and ad-hoc basis. This will also

be true for many other areas such as PowerShell, troubleshooting Windows OS, root cause analysis, and resolution.
