Wakefield – Communications & Campaign Manager

Location: Wood St, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ

Contract: Initial contract to September 2022 with further extensions

Hours: Full Time – Monday – Friday

Payrate: £17 an hour

Description:

We are looking for a highly experienced communications professional - someone with a minimum of 3 years marcoms experience - to join our fast-paced and award-winning communications team.

Key duties

To be the lead adviser for the Corporate Director, Directorate Management Team, and other colleagues in the Directorate on all communications and marketing activities,

ensuring that such activities are effective and contribute to achieving the Directorate’s and Council’s key objectives.

To contribute to raising the profile of Wakefield Council by enhancing its reputation and corporate identity, strengthening and managing Wakefield Council’s brand and image.

To build and manage the Directorate’s and Council’s reputation with key stakeholders, customers, partners and employees.

To contribute to the development and implementation of the Council’s Communications Strategy and activities, ensuring effective communication with residents, staff, elected Members, partners, and other audiences when required.

To devise, agree, account manage, and, where appropriate, implement plans for integrated multi-channel communications campaigns, in association with Directorate colleagues,

the Senior Communications Manager, and the Head of Communications, Marketing and Engagement as part of implementing the Council’s Communications Strategy.

To devise, agree, and, where appropriate, account manage and contribute to implementing plans for integrated multi-channel communications campaigns,

in association with colleagues in partner organisations, the Senior Communications Manager and Head of Communications, Marketing and Engagement.

To manage, monitor, and evaluate the Directorate’s communications priorities to a high standard, including how they contribute to the Council’s Communications Strategy.

Establish and develop meaningful working relationships with managers, elected members, and external agencies where appropriate, working corporately and co-operatively to ensure that Council communications are at the forefront of innovation and change.

To ensure the Communications Service provides coordinated and proactive internal communications, media relations and marketing services to the Directorate to maximise opportunities to communicate the Council’s activities and policies.

To contribute to the management of media and other communications issues when required, ensuring key colleagues are fully briefed and the Council’s reputation is managed effectively.

To develop new ways of working to improve communications activity and effectiveness in the Council, including the use of social media where appropriate.

To be a member of the Communications Management Team, contributing to the development of the Communications Service.

To be the first point of contact for Directorate communications activities.

To access and agree support from colleagues in the Communications Service when available and required.

To champion high quality, best practice, and value for money communications throughout the Council.

Ensure all communications and marketing and activities throughout the Directorate takes place within the agreed communications protocols.

To deputise for the Senior Communications Manager when required.

Represent the Council as required at meetings and events within or outside the district when required.

Ensure that all Wakefield Council communications reflect the Equal Opportunities policy.
