Wakefield – Highways Supervisor

Location: Bradford Road, Newton Bar, Wakefield, WF1 2TY

Contract: Contract to September 2022 with further extensions

Hours: Full Time – Monday - Friday

Payrate: £13 an hour

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Undertake specific technical support duties within Highways and Engineering.

Ensure that departmental services are provided to the highest quality/standard with due recognition of client and customer requirements, in accordance with the Council’s Customer Care and Equal Opportunities policies.

Meet the public and representatives of other Services and Departments as necessary and provide appropriate information on request.

Contribute to the maintenance of good employee relations within Highways and Engineering.

Work within recognised safe systems of work at all times.

Adhere to and apply legislation, Council Standing Orders and procedures as appropriate.

To provide cover to other areas of work in response to changes in the workload and operational requirements

Role Responsibilities

Establish and develop positive relationships with external organisations, customers and stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient delivery of highway engineering schemes.

Inspect and supervise highways engineering work undertaken by external contractors ensuring compliance with Contract Procedures and Construction Standards and Specifications

Advise contractors on construction methods, material specifications, design options, use of plant and adequacy of temporary works ensuring working practices comply with safety requirements.

Making Engineering decisions on required additional work in absence of Engineer taking account of and providing justification of cost, time and disruption implications.

Record keeping in a site-based diary of all site activities, deliveries, weather conditions and personnel on site (including Statutory Undertakers and other Service Units), and,

when work is undertaken on a Daywork basis, to record details of plant, labour and materials used to inform of financial implications.

Determine requirements for material testing, supervision of processes and interpretation of results
