Full Schedule Announced for Wales’ Biggest Tech Event

An exciting mix of interactive workshops, classes and keynotes, alongside street food, a live talk streamed from the London Stock Exchange and even a boat have been announced as the full agenda for Digital is revealed.

The two-day festival, headline sponsored by GoCompare, is coming to Cardiff on the 18th and 19th September, with a schedule that takes on everything from the Internet of Things to investors, talent and smart cities – with Wales’ finest street-food specialists taking care of the menu at lunch.

Some of the world’s leading tech experts will lead bespoke sessions unique to Digital across three major venues: Tramshed, Tramshed Tech, and the GoCompare Boat running along the River Taff.

Some of the festival highlights include:

Day One – Monday 18th September 17

TRAMSHED

Main Stage
Matt Webb of R/GA Ventures takes to the stage to talk business opportunities within the Internet of Things.  Jacqueline de RojastechUK’s President and Computer Weekly Hall of Famer, will deliver a keynote session focusing on talent, skills and the future of work. After lunch, GoCompare Chief Product Officer and entrepreneur George Berkowski will share his story and the secrets of how to build a billion dollar app.

Cinema 
Tramshed’s cinema is the place to be if you’re a start-up, with an eclectic mix of interactive activities running throughout the morning.  In the afternoon, talks from Edtech Wales’ Ty Goddard and Cardiff University’s National Software Academy will look to explore the future of talent within technology.

GoCompare Boat
GoCompare are looking to recruit programmers and product managers among other exciting roles. If you are looking for a new challenge, then this you should make the boat your first destination.

First aboard the GoCompare Boat is Peter Wallqvist of iManage RAVN, who’ll be looking at the role of robotics and artificial intelligence in the legal sector, before Caroline Gorski of the Digital Catapult talks Digital Manufacturing/Industry 4.0.  After lunch, you’ll hear about Accessing Finance for Growth from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). They’re passionate about helping companies scale up and grab that growth, so come along to discover how you can access growth equity capital through public markets like AIM.

We’ll then drop anchor at Penarth Marina and set course for Tec Marina.  Safe on dry land, Chris Griffiths, CEO of OpenGenius, will share his story, as the first Welsh company accepted onto the ELITE programme, via a live stream from the London Stock Exchange.

TRAMSHED TECH

Showcase Stage

A day’s worth of bitesize presentations kicks off with a TechnocampsShowcase, and includes talks from the Digital Dozen, Football Association of Wales performance analyst James Turner on how tech helped beat the Belgians at Euro 2016 and MD of PitcheroMark Fletcher, who will be looking at the importance of digital analysis in sport.

Round Table

Whether you’re an investor or innovator, a tech-head or a complete newbie, Tramshed’s Round Table is the place to interact and engage with a morning of networking, closely followed by a discussion on how to attract the best employees.

Breakfast Bar
Tramshed’s breakfast bar is bigger than your average office, and is not for (solely) drinking coffee.  Don’t forget to bring along your laptop and grab a stool early for an afternoon of coding lessons led by the National Software Academy.

The Depot

A series of workshops will see PA Consulting talk innovation in the face of cyber threats, David Teague of the ICO address that elephant in the room (General Data Protection Regulation) and how it will affect businesses, and Simon Greenwood deliver a Q&A session of intelligent automation.

The Shed
There’ll be more workshops over in Tramshed’s smaller sibling venue, including a run down on digital marketing essentials, a panel session on tech opportunities for healthcare, and a discussion around talent acquisition and retention for business.  The afternoon closes with a session for start-ups on “being investor ready”. This interactive session will feature Ian Merricks of White Horse Capital giving practical advice to start-ups looking for investment.

The Engine Room
Damon Rands from cyber security specialists Wolfberry Cyber opens the Engine Room by explaining some of the essential skills for operating with modern cyber space.  There’ll be a panel session looking at business opportunities within the IoT, Jonny Voon of Innovate UK will evaluate the future of Tech, and the evening will conclude with the Women in Tech meet-up.

Day Two – Tuesday 19th September 17

Main Stage
An Investors’ Panel will see Dragons’ Den star Rachel Elanugh joined by ‘The Grumpy Entrepreneur’ David Murray Hundley, a LinkedIn European Business Leader of the Year, alongside chair of The Accelerator NetworkIan Merricks and Emily Close, an Investor at Albion Ventures.  Inma Martinez, considered by Fortune and TIME as one of the world’s leading digital media strategists, will be talking Smart Cities on the mainstage – a perfect accompaniment for your street food lunch.

GoCompare Boat
The Boat will be heading towards Cardiff Bay bright and early for the Digital Dozen Breakfast, bringing innovators and investors together over eggs, coffee, and toast.  Programmers and Product Managers are invited to join GoCompare for elevenses.

TRAMSHED TECH

Showcase Stage
Innovation Point open with a short presentation on how to secure funding for new business, followed by variety of short and punchy talks from the likes of Barclays, GoCompare, RWG Mobile, and PA Consulting.

Breakfast Bar
If you missed out on Day One’s coding lessons – fear not!  Wales-based Codez Academy will be at the breakfast bar all afternoon teaching the ins and outs of how to code.

The Depot
Day Two will see Airbus Group Endeavr host a workshop on inspiring innovation through digital marketing, while after lunch Jo Morrison of mobile app development company Calvium talks digital placemaking in Wales.

The Shed
Tuesday morning will be jam-packed with workshops on innovation and growth, with the afternoon playing host to the smart cities panel, set to include key figures from My Society, Digital CatapultNokia and Tech UK.

The Engine Room
Morning workshops will be centred around bidding into the public sector, while the afternoon will see exploration into the journey of a smart city by Sam Markey of the Future Cities Catapult.
