THOSE who follow fengshui will know what “flying stars” are about. The flying star is an annual astrological chart in fengshui practice. Each year, the stars (No.1 to 9) will “fly” into nine different sectors of the house or property and remain in position for a year.
These yearly stars are said to affect people’s lives positively or negatively. The stars are deemed auspicious if they bring favourable energy such as wealth and luck while inauspicious or malicious stars bring bad luck, illness and misfortune.
You can choose to “activate” such sectors where the lucky stars reside for the year with placement of fengshui objects or enhancers to welcome wealth or luck. Likewise, they would supress negative energy of unlucky stars as well.
In this Year of the Dog, the flying star No.9 will fly into the centre of the house or property. This flying star is deemed to be the most auspicious and is associated with wealth and happiness, says fengshui master Jessie Lee, adding that activation of the location of the lucky star will boost one’s luck.
Lee and Hong Kong fengshui master Mak Ling Ling share tips for prosperity and health for those who want to tap into positive qi (energy) and be prosperous.
As the star No.9 occupies the centre of the house, Lee advises to leave the area spacious and to declutter for better energy flow.
Star No.9 is also related to the auspicious colour, purple. Activate this area by placing purple or red objects – flowers, lamp, angpows, firecrackers decoration or Chinese lanterns – to welcome the star.
You can also place the three deities of wealth, prosperity and longevity (Fook Look Sau in Cantonese) in the centre of the house to help you achieve all-round prosperity.
Mak says the God of Prosperity will come from the South-East. She advises that purple or red items be placed in the South-East sector to increase overall prosperous energy.
Lee recommends wearing or using auspicious colours like purple or red to help you achieve better focus and have clarity of mind. This, in turn, enables you to make better decisions and have better luck.
Purple is associated with wisdom and calmness of the mind. Purple helps people to meditate better as the colour is soothing and calming.
Amethyst helps to strengthen mind power and can prevent a person from being easily drunk or charmed.
Lee says that we constantly need things or colours to help us stay on our path. For example, when we see purple objects, we think of prosperity and are reminded to work harder to achieve our goals.
Placement of fengshui objects (like gourd for good health and prosperity) does not mean that one’s health will always be good. They serve to remind us to take care of our health.
The calabash or bottle gourd (wulou in Cantonese) – a symbol of longevity and health – can be placed in the bedroom which is our space for relaxation and rejuvenation. You can also place round and smooth crystal objects or lamps.
Mak says that if you are born between the 10th and 12th month of the lunar calendar, there is a lack of fire elements in your life chart. “Don’t forget to wear colours associated with these elements like purple or red to strengthen your health,” she says.
