Job Description

Highways Drainage Engineer – WF1, Wakefield – ASAP Start

Monday to Friday, 8am till 5pm

Paying to £20ph via umbrella

Dates: Starting ASAP, Running till17/04/22 (Could be extended if all goes well)

Note; Ideally the candidate will have drainage modelling experience also.

General duties & Responsibilities may include but are not limited to;

To maintain the highway drainage system in an efficient condition making the best use of resources.

In conjunction with the Area Engineer - Highway Maintenance, deliver services, specific projects and annual works programmes in accordance with given priorities and resources.

To participate in the development of staff within the Section, to ensure that individuals achieve their maximum potential contribution.

To participate in the frequent review of all systems and procedures in operation.

Responsibility for keeping colleagues and management well informed so that work is co-ordinated and integrated across the department.

To represent the Group/Department and/or lead where necessary on internal, corporate and external projects.

To represent the Department in contact with the public and external organisations.

To develop and maintain effective working relationships within Highway Network Management and with staff in other services.

To ensure all policies, practices, legislation and codes of practice are adhered to.

To adhere to and apply legislation, Council Standing Orders and procedures as appropriate.

To ensure that all Health and Safety responsibilities are complied with.

Specific Tasks;

To support the Area Engineers and other team members in the successful execution of the service objectives and team tasks.

Responsible for identifying and preparing the road marking, road stud and sign maintenance programme and for ensuring it is authorised for release to the Contractor in accordance with Departmental procedures.

Programme, co-ordinate and issue all new Engineering Division road marking and road stud proposals to the contractor.

Day to day management of the Road Marking and Road Stud Contract including checking works and materials are to specification, standard and programme and instruct any necessary remedial work progress.

Assisting in the identification and preparation of a recommended annual programme for sign maintenance.

In conjunction with the Area Engineers, manage cyclic maintenance of the highway drainage system.

Ensure contract payments are checked for accuracy, and payments recommended for payment.

In conjunction with the Area Engineers, manage the investigation of complaints/problems with the highway drainage system.

Qualifications:

Appropriate relevant experience and technical qualification eg Degree or equivalent or extensive relevant experience in drainage maintenance/design.

Extensive relevant experience and appropriate technical qualification eg Degree or equivalent or evidence of particular relevant extensive experience.

Comprehensive relevant experience and appropriate technical qualification eg Degree or equivalent or evidence of very comprehensive experience.
