Trafford – Litigation Solicitor - Corporate & Commercial

Location: TALBOT ROAD, MANCHESTER, M32 0TH

Contract: Contract to March 2022

Hours: Full Time - 36.25 hours per week

Payrate: £40-45 p/h

Description:

The Corporate and Commercial team provides legal advice, assistance and representation to the Council, its Elected Members, its Officers,

STAR Procurement Service, schools and other clients across all relevant areas of corporate and commercial and local government law.

We are looking or an experienced Corporate and Commercial Solicitor who can provide specialist and proactive legal advice and assistance across a range of areas arising within the post holder’s area of responsibility,

including: -

EU public procurement rules and application.

Contracting and procurement processes.

Employment law.

Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

State Aid.

Commercial and financial awareness.

Contract management and dispute resolution.

Drafting and where appropriate, negotiating, relevant documentation.

Licensing and public protection.

Community Partnerships and business models.

Local government law and procedures.

In addition, you will have experience of one or more of the areas listed above and you will be capable of:

developing and advising on a wide range of high-level complex and sensitive work.

representing Legal Services at committee meetings and other meetings of the Council and also represent the council’s interests with external organisations.

supporting the Principal Solicitors, Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer as required.

possessing up-to-date knowledge in respect of national trends, policy, legislation, guidelines, initiatives and best practice in Legal and Local Government.

ensuring that the service meets all its statutory requirements and responsibilities; and

communicating and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, building partnerships and productive working relationships to achieve shared objectives

You will need to have experience in contract drafting and will be skilled at drafting legal documentation. Ideally, you will also have a working knowledge of EU Procurement Regulations.

You will also possess commercial awareness and have a “can do” approach.

You’ll be skilled at carrying out legal research and analysis, providing concise and clear advice and be able to communicate with Elected Members, Council Officers and members of the public.

You will be well-organised and adaptable, as you may from time to time be asked to take on challenges outside your field of expertise.

Occasionally, you will be required to travel between Trafford Council, Rochdale Council, Stockport Council and Tameside Council offices
