JOB TITLE:  Residential Child Care Worker


PLACEMENT: To start ASAP, Shifts: 7:30am – 3:30pm or 2pm- 10pm

PAY RATE: PAYE from £10.14 per hour & Umbrella from £12.58 per hour

4Recruitment Services are seeking Residential Child Care Workers – level 2, for our client based in Derby.

The role is to support challenging young people aged 12 – 17  years old.  We have roles available at two separate children homes. The clients service operates around the clock service over 365 days a year.

  • One site offers majority of morning shifts from 7:30am – 3:30pm.
  • Second site offers majority of afternoon shifts from 2:00pm – 10:00pm.

Main requirements of the role involves:

Personal Care tasks – including washing, showering, bathing, hair washing / brushing, changing pads, drying young people, dressing young people, applying creams / shower gels / shampoos, brushing teeth. Moving and Handling.

Domestic Tasks – Including laundry, changing beds, cleaning, preparing and cooking snacks / meals,

Administration of medication – Checking, administering and signing in accordance with policy.

Lone-working – To support young people with a variety of needs in the community and in the home.

Administration tasks – Use the computer (keyboard / mouse) to complete reports, daily logs and emails. Completing hand written recording tasks as required.

Working a variety of shifts – early, late, and night shifts /sleep in duties (going to bed at the home at 11pm until 7am - may be required to be woken by other staff in critical situations)

Communicating - With children and young people using a variety of methods including signing.

Driving vehicles - Supporting / escorting young people in transport.

Working with children and young people who have a variety of needs and may demonstrate challenging behaviour - Using de-escalation techniques as trained, and where necessary this may require the use of physical intervention – either alone / with support of one or more colleagues, to prevent significant harm to yourself / other staff, young people, others, or significant damage to property.

Supporting access - Enabling children and young people to attend activities in the community / medical appointments / family contacts / either lone working or as part of a group.

First Aid - including resuscitation / CPR.

Planning for Young Peoples Care – Utilising potentially distressing information with respect to planning for young people's care.


  • You will need to be flexible in your approach to work and work pattern
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare
  • Experience of working with challenging individuals aged 12 – 17years
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk assessment
  • Valid UK driving license
  • DBS check
