Housing Welfare Officer – Catford (Temp Vacancy)

Umbrella Pay Rate: £21.00ph

Full-Time (37 hours)

Job Purpose:

  • As part of the council’s response to the Homes for Ukraine scheme, it is required to conduct due diligence and welfare checks on hosting placements. This post is necessary to ensure the accommodation arrangements are not hazardous and vulnerable adults not placed at risk
  • The potholder will be required to undertake unaccompanied home visits and complete suitability assessments, as well as provide advice to hosts
  • The candidate must hold an enhanced DBS clearance, be IT literate and have a strong housing or social care background.

Accountabilities:

  • Working knowledge of issues affecting refugees.                                                      
  • Working knowledge of provisions relating to vulnerable people.                        
  • Knowledge of services, both statutory and voluntary, that provide support to refugees and vulnerable people.                                                                                                                                       
  • IT literate: working knowledge of and ability to use e-mail, word processing, Excel and database packages.                                        
  • Experience of communicating and networking with a wide range of partners/stakeholders including people from a diverse culture.                                           
  • Working knowledge of health and safety practice in a service delivery environment.
  • Ability to empathise with the needs and experiences of refugees and be sensitive to cultural issues, including those relating to faith and gender.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and recognise and value the contribution of others.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • IT literate: working knowledge of and ability to use e-mail, word processing, Excel and database packages.                                                                                                                                            
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, including the ability to communicate with people of diverse cultures and be confident and assertive when required                                                                                                                                 
  • Ability to collate and interpret a range of service delivery information including statistics and user feedback.                                                                                                                                             
  • Planning: ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and coordinate a range of activities.
  • Experience of undertaking housing or welfare assessments 
  • Experience of delivering high quality, client centered services to vulnerable individuals                    
  • Experience of developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders                                                                                                                                             
  • Experience of planning, managing own workload and prioritising a range of complex tasks     
  • Experience of writing clearly and accurately and presenting information to a wide range of audiences.
